Two Sigma is a different kind of investment manager. Since 2001, we have used data science and technology to derive insights that forecast the future and discover value in markets worldwide. Our team of scientists, technologists and academics looks beyond traditional finance to understand the bigger picture and develop creative solutions to some of the world’s most difficult economic problems. Our work spans markets and industries, from insurance and securities to private investments and new ventures.
Technology drives our business — it's our main advantage — and hardware engineers play a pivotal role.
Hardware engineers at Two Sigma produce custom FPGA-based logic solutions for use in various trading and networking applications within the company. Members of the team work hand-in-hand with software engineers and financial modelers to identify problems that can benefit from the low latency and consistent performance of dedicated hardware, then work to bring those ideas to life in a production environment.
As a Two Sigma engineer, you'll champion the rigorous, collaborative, scientific approach that allows us to meet business needs. You'll join a forward-looking, future-reaching organization to build tools that will scale with the company.
We attract engineers with a true passion for data. We seek individuals who want to build for today and invent for tomorrow. We value curiosity and insight, balanced with pragmatism and practicality. We recognize both the small steps, as well as the broad vision.
We are seeking a diverse set of hardware engineering interns to join our team. With a group that includes a Unix Lifetime Achievement winner, Putnam medalists, ACM Programming competition finalists, and International Mathematics Olympiad medalists, you'll be in the company of ambitious high achievers with common goals and a love of learning.
The summer internship program lasts 10 weeks and takes place at our Soho-based New York City office. You will partner with an assigned mentor and work on a single project during the course of your time here, which culminates in a final presentation.
You'll have the chance to attend all Two Sigma events, from brown bag lunches to our ongoing series of guest speakers. We’ll host intern-specific social events to help you get to know other Two Sigma employees and explore all that surrounding New York City has to offer.
As a student, you will be hired into a general Hardware Engineering role and matched to a specific team 2-3 months before you start.
Depending on the Engineering area you join, you will take on the following responsibilities:
Directly contribute to the performance of our trading system, while obtaining hands-on experience with state-of-the-art hardware.
Building and maintaining the low-latency, high-performance infrastructure and systems responsible for executing trades.
You should possess the following qualifications:
Coursework towards a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
Experience programming Xilinx or Altera FPGAs with either Verilog or VHDL (Vivado HLS is a plus).
Exceptional programming skills specifically in C/C++.
Basic knowledge of the standard template library (STL).
Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
An obsession with hardware design and concepts.
We are open-minded in our search for critical thinkers who are passionate about technology. While we analyze the data-rich domain of finance, financial experience is not a requirement.
We are proud to be an equal opportunity workplace. We do not discriminate based upon race, religion, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, age, status as a protected veteran, status as an individual with a disability, or any other applicable legally protected characteristics.
