Two Sigma Ventures invests in early-stage companies using data-driven techniques like machine learning to build products that propel the technology industry. As the venture capital affiliate of Two Sigma Investments, we have access to a deep technical network of PhDs and technology practitioners. We deliver the expertise of this network to our portfolio companies. 

We seek someone experienced with applied data research to join our team to contribute to our ongoing effort to utilize data to enhance our investment process. We believe that there’s a wealth of underutilized data in the venture capital industry, and we want someone to help us understand and apply that data. You’ll work alongside our existing team, helping to lead the charge in terms of helping the venture capital industry become more data driven.

You will take on the following responsibilities:

  • Working with our data strategy team to identify and evaluate data sets relevant to quantitative venture capital investing
  • Building statistical and machine learning based models related to startups that will be incorporated into our existing proprietary tools
  • Experience moving models research into a production system
  • Co-managing the entire research process from data extraction to tools that can be used by the rest of the team
  • Using your intuition about startups and the venture capital industry to explore new ideas and hypotheses
  • Helping set the short-term and long-term data strategy for the suite of products that will be used to quantify venture capital

You should possess the following qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience required using statistical or machine learning techniques in Python
  • BS in computer science, math, statistics or related fields
  • Self-motivated, intellectually curious, and a strong work ethic
  • Excellent oral, written communication and presentation skills
  • Technical startup experience 
  • Entrepreneurial/leadership or product management experience
  • You love to explore and learn from data

The base pay for this role is anticipated to be between $175,000 and $225,000. The anticipated base pay range is based on information as of the time this post was generated. This role may also be eligible for other forms of compensation and benefits, such as a discretionary bonus, health, dental and other wellness plans and 401(k) contributions. Discretionary bonus can be a significant portion of total compensation. Actual compensation for successful candidates will be carefully determined based on a number of factors, including their skills, qualifications and experience.
