The Strategy & Operations team’s mission is to define an integrated business strategy and drive its execution in support of the Chief Investment Officers (CIOs) and broader modeling organization by working closely with partners from across the organization, all while utilizing a strong sense of accountability and ‘business first’ mindset. We’re focused on helping Two Sigma deliver best-in-class, scientifically-driven investing and explore new high-potential business lines that harness the firm’s research, data, compute and technology capabilities.
- Strategy Setting. Identify business priorities, requirements and dependencies together with modeling, engineering and product leads, merging a bottoms-up view of business opportunities with a top-down perspective on Two Sigma’s strategic arcs and industry positioning. Integrate business-level activities into firm-wide strategic plans. E.g., authoring vision/mission of a specific business, linking that vision/mission to TS’s strategic arcs, specifying how that vision/mission translates into a series of cross-functional activities (short and long-term) with well-defined, annual KPIs
- Operational Implementation. Translate strategic objectives into actionable operating plans and drive execution in coordination with cross-functional teams, supporting resource allocation decisions as needed. E.g., communicating objectives and progress to senior leadership, setting and tracking business KPIs, collaborating with partners throughout the firm to specify product requirements and driving projects to completion, organizing/running team all hands/events.
- Business Execution. Work closely with modeling and engineering partners to ensure key strategic objectives are implemented with excellence, communicated effectively to all relevant stakeholders and in doing so advance that business’s broader strategy/goals. Facilitate connectivity/progress by connecting the dots when needed across business initiatives with a broad array of stakeholders. E.g., identifying that a machine-learning (ML) modeling effort can leverage a novel research approach previously developed by another team
- New Businesses and Capabilities. Identify, research, design and build critical new capabilities within Two Sigma’s research business. Partner with research and engineering leaders to spearhead development by pitching firm leadership on strategic rationale, establishing a clear business case and operating plan, framing design requirements, determining resourcing and profitability, and building from the ground-up with full accountability. E.g., working closely with modeling to specify the opportunity to extend research activities into a new space, outlining the strategic rationale, opportunity size, execution roadmap, KPIs, kill points, resources required, etc.
