The Database Engineering team operates the most critical database systems which are integrated tightly with Two Sigma's highly parallel research environment and core live trading systems. We are also developing new database services and solutions to further scale our research platform and growing our database offerings by embracing cloud native database platforms. The challenge, complexity, and impact of this team will continue to grow meaningfully as we build out solutions to remain at the forefront of an industry where latencies are approaching zero and the depth and breadth of relevant data sources is growing exponentially.
You will take on the following responsibilities:
- Provide production support for critical applications running on PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server to ensure ongoing health and fast recovery in the event of any failure
- Provide consultation for user adoption, application optimization, and usage best practices
- Research and adopt new database technologies or tools to improve the manageability, scalability and efficiency of our data infrastructure
- Design, build, and support software to integrate modern database solutions with Two Sigma's data ecosystem (storage backend, development tooling, etc.)
- Design and implement software components and services to enable flawless user adoption of cloud database services. This includes but is not limited to: tooling for data replication/migration, database backup and recovery, mainstreaming observability and monitoring, and automation for provisioning and upgrade
You should possess the following qualifications:
- Minimum 7 years of experience required; 7-15 years of experience preferred within the database domain
- BS degree in Computer Science or relevant technical subject area
- Hands-on experience in PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases with expertise in at least one of these RDBMS platforms
- Hands-on experience with database design, troubleshooting, and performance tuning supporting sophisticated and critical 24x7 applications
- Hands-on experience working with a Public Cloud Platform (AWS, GCP, etc.) and running databases in the Cloud
- Hands-on software engineering skills in one or more programming language for system automation and integration-related work (ex: Python or PowerShell)
- Good understanding of operating systems (Linux and Windows), network fundamentals, and system performance

The base pay for this role will be between $165,000 and $325,000. This role may also be eligible for other forms of compensation and benefits, such as a discretionary bonus, health, dental and other wellness plans and 401(k) contributions. Discretionary bonus can be a significant portion of total compensation. Actual compensation for successful candidates will be carefully determined based on a number of factors, including their skills, qualifications and experience.
