We are seeking a talented software engineer in the Database Engineering team at Two Sigma. The Database Engineering team operates the most critical database systems and owns the database client libraries / frameworks which are integrated tightly with Two Sigma’s highly parallel research environment and core live trading systems. We are also developing new database services and solutions to further scale our research platform. As a Software Engineer, you will be charged with all aspects of the development, maintenance, and onboarding of database client libraries / frameworks to enable various persistence patterns and efficient access of data across languages. 

You will take on the following responsibilities:

• Own database access framework/libraries and work closely with application teams to optimize the access patterns

• Partner with software engineering teams on schema, index, and query design to support application development

• Collaborate with financial experts and software engineers to design data models

• Manage a wide variety of technical projects including cloud migration as well as several proprietary in-house file and database systems distributed over multiple sites

• Contribute to operational excellence of databases operations including performance optimization, monitoring, automation, replication, backup & recovery

You should possess the following qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of experience

• Experience with ORM frameworks (e.g., Hibernate, JOOQ) and their use with different databases

• Minimum of 3+ years of development experience utilizing Java/C++/Python and relational databases systems (e.g., MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL)

• In depth knowledge of database query languages (e.g., T-SQL, PL/SQL), database schema design, database and application level optimizations

• Best practices in database systems including system automation and operational excellence

• Strong experience in coding with scripting languages (Python and/or Powershell)

• Ability to build strong working collaborative relationships across the organization

• Strong communications in both written and verbal
