The Infrastructure Engineering team focuses on developing and supporting the core of Two Sigma's Linux environment. You'll work closely with collaborators across the company to ensure that our innovative research and trading software can run across multiple environments at substantial scale. You'll lead a variety of critical tasks, including modifications of upstream Debian images for bare metal/VMs/containers, compiling custom kernels, configuration management, server monitoring and telemetry, and much more. Your focus will be across the full stack - from hardware to the virtualization layer to the OS, automating lifecycle management of our enterprise Linux environment.
You will take on the following responsibilities:
  • Improve and manage the Linux platform, focusing on performance improvements and reducing operational complexity
  • Develop automation to maintain our Linux environment
  • Solve sophisticated issues across the stack, from kernel-level problems to application performance
  • Lead the full lifecycle of Linux systems from certification of new hardware, image creation, installation, upgrades and overall lifecycle management

You should possess the following qualifications:
  • Minimum 1 year of experience required; 1-5 years of experience preferred working in a Linux systems, software or reliability engineering capacity
  • Experience running and configuring large-scale Linux environments (100s-1000s of servers)
  • Proven programming experience in Python, Go or a similar programming language
  • Understanding of system design principles, including distributed systems architecture and networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, and firewalls
  • Deep knowledge of Linux internals including the scheduler, memory management, and network stack
  • Experience with low-latency tuning techniques such as busy polling, huge pages, real-time kernels, and isolcpus
  • Familiarity with kernel bypass networking, FPGA integration, or direct market access connectivity is highly desirable
  • Experience with containers, Kubernetes, and/or C to help compile and troubleshoot kernel issues is a plus

The base pay for this role will be between $165,000 and $250,000. This role may also be eligible for other forms of compensation and benefits, such as a discretionary bonus, health, dental and other wellness plans and 401(k) contributions. Discretionary bonus can be a significant portion of total compensation. Actual compensation for successful candidates will be carefully determined based on a number of factors, including their skills, qualifications and experience.
