The Reliability Engineering teams in New York are responsible for critical systems and data underlying Two Sigma’s research and production. We enable business initiatives, drive automation, reduce risk, improve visibility, and increase operational efficiency.

Each team is a collection of highly collaborative engineers from a range of backgrounds (prior finance experience not required) that all share a passion to improve our systems and to learn from one another while doing so.

You will take on the following responsibilities:
  • Lead engineering and operational support for some of the firm’s most critical systems.
  • Software development of systems, services, tools and libraries.
  • Improve all aspects of software reliability, including observability, operability, scalability, and availability.
  • Build and maintain automation focused software to enable us to craft maintainable and scalable systems.
  • Adhere to rigorous change management controls, including a commitment to continuous improvement of our tests and automated checks.
  • Collaborate with our software engineering teams on architectural and product design, reliability, performance, support issues and improvements to our tools, processes, and software.
  • Own the daily operation and monitoring of a production-critical environment.
  • Participate in an on-call support rotation.

You should possess the following qualifications:
  • Minimum 1 year of experience required; 5+ years of experience preferred in Reliability Engineering.
  • BS/BA degree in Computer Science or another highly technical, scientific discipline.
  • Ability to program (structured and object-oriented) with one or more high level languages such as Python, Java, C++, Rust.
  • Proactive approach to problem identification and resolution and continuous development and automation.
  • Proven track record for automating processes combined with an algorithmic approach to solving problems.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience with UNIX or Linux systems.
  • Experience working with distributed systems and low-latency applications.
  • Experience with networking fundamentals.
  • Experience working directly with external counterparties on issue resolution.
  • Experience with Python.

The base pay for this role will be between $165,000 and $250,000. This role may also be eligible for other forms of compensation and benefits, such as a discretionary bonus, health, dental and other wellness plans and 401(k) contributions. Discretionary bonus can be a significant portion of total compensation. Actual compensation for successful candidates will be carefully determined based on a number of factors, including their skills, qualifications and experience.
